RVCA Pro Junior 2018 | Newport Beach CA

It's a privilege to partner with the City of Newport Beach for the 30th annual City of Newport Beach Surf Championships RVCA Jr Pro. We're honoured to support this long-standing community event with our neighbouring town. Check out the excerpt below from WSL (World Surf League) coverage and read their entire article here.

Special thanks to our sponsors Jacks Surfboards, Banzai Bowls, Bearflag Fish Co, Topo Chico, Sun Bum, Smith Optics, Slowtide, Flexfit, Hydroflask, Scosche, and the City of Newport Beach.

Via WSL: "The surfing community of Newport Beach, California, rejoiced once more as Tyler Gunter brought the RVCA Pro Junior pres by Jack's Surfboards and Banzai Bowls title back to his home city. It marked the 18-year-old's third consecutive Final at 56th Street Jetty yielded a second victory over Chase Modelski, Cole Houshmand, and Cooper Davies after his 2016 win and runner-up in 2017...

San Clemente was well represented once more on finals day with Samantha Sibley and Kirra Pinkerton's one-two finish in the women's event, and Houshmand earning his second Finals appearance of 2018. Houshmand came out firing in the Semifinals, garnering the day's highest heat total of 15.50, and looked to be Gunter's most formidable threat to his win. The 17-year-old got to an early lead with his first two scoring waves, but couldn't hold that position and now looks to defend his Live Like Zander Junior Pro title for a shot at the Top 4 finish...

As in many of the North America Pro Junior events, international talents are scattered among the region's top competitors and Davies held firm as this year's most volatile -- going from Round 1 to the Final. Both the Queensland, Australia, native and Japanese competitor Taichi Hagita earned Semifinal berths, but it was Davies who found his way into the Final -- the first since Kalani David in 2015. While no points go to the 18-year-old's account, some prize money and experience outside his home region never hurt...

"It's such a good feeling being able to build heat by heat and progress to the Finals means so much," Davies said. "It was such a great experience and being able to widen my horizons overseas, and seeing what the competing is like elsewhere is a big part of me succeeding. Now it's just seeing what happens next, but next year I'll give the QS a good crack and see how it goes."

The next North America Pro Junior event will be the season's last -- the Live Live Like Zander Junior Pro in Memory of Zander Venezia at Soup Bowl, Bathsheba, Barbados."...

Jay Davies | Stab High Contest in Waco, TX

"Stab High is a world class surfing event in the heart of Texas. Despite the oxymoron, this middle-American location may just be surfing’s ultimate competitive platform.

Some context: At Barefoot Ski Ranch in Waco, Texas, owner Stuart Parsons installed the first full-sized American Wave Machines wave pool. Professional surfer Cheyne Magnusson was hired to manage the site and lead wavepool testing, which led to the creation of the world’s greatest man-made air section. Stab High will gather 16 of surfing’s premier aerialists in Waco, where over a live webcast surfers like Chippa Wilson, Noa Deane, and Jay Davies will attempt to land the biggest and most innovative aerials possible, for a significant cash prize." - Stab Magazine

We're excited our guy, RVCA Surf's Jay Davies will be amongst the greats competing in this historical event. Check out this video of Jay sharing his thoughts on this event. Tune in to Pay Per View Sept 22 to watch the event. Visit Stab High for more info.

Damage Frito | Alex & Ellis

For Californian surfers, Mexico is always a blip on the radar, providing an easy escape from many the overcrowded lineup. In “Damage Frito”, RVCA Advocates Alex Knost & Ellis Ericson pack up the van and head south of the border to find a mixed bag of right pointbreaks, some playful, many exciting. From gliding across slow, Malibu-esque walls to threading through fast, hollow sections, the unique lines drawn by both surfers is very pleasing to the eyes. As they trade waves and swap boards, our only thought is that we wish we were there. Photos by Delon Bone, video by Jimmy Jazz James, song by White Fence.

Smith Street Tattoo | Collection BBQ

RVCA is proud to present its inaugural clothing collection with the world-renowned Smith Street Tattoo Parlour. SSTP was founded in 2008 by ANP Artist, Bert Krak and Steve Boltz - located in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn NY. The SSTP crew is made up of legendary traditional American tattoo artists: Bert Krak, Steve Boltz, Eli Quinters, Frank William and Chris Howell. Smith Street Tattoo Parlour is regarded as one of the greatest tattoo parlours in the world -- fans will book months in advance and will travel thousands of miles to get injected with SSTP's authentic Brooklyn ink.

Our relationship with Smith Street began with Bert Krak and his friendship with RVCA founder, PM Tenore. Bert became a member of the Artist Network Program in 2013 and been considered family ever since. To celebrate the launch of the new Smith Street Tattoo Parlour collection, Bert and his team hosted the RVCA family at their parlour with a private backyard BBQ. Special thanks to Bert, Smith Street Artists and friends, and Traeger Grills for their support in this celebration. Photos by Andrea DoSouto.
